On the Easel
My current series of work draws deeply from my roots in the high plains of Colorado and the vast open spaces of southeastern Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana. These grasslands, often overlooked, hold a quiet, resilient beauty that defines an entire ecosystem shaped by wind, light, and time. I’m inspired by their subtle hues, the way the horizon breathes, and the sense of belonging that rises from such wide and weathered land. Yet these places bear the marks of history, the Dust Bowl’s scars, the press of modern agriculture, and the steady loss of native wildlife. Through my work, I hope to honor both the beauty that remains and the fragile balance that sustains it.
My latest works in progress are on oil on belgian linen, the linen provides a course texture and is darker that its counterpart canvas. The fiber is a beautiful organic brown hue. I've left the linen coloring intact by using a clear gesso to prime the canvas, and am painting with oil.
